The uncanny valley is a term used to describe the unappealing nature of characters or objects that appear "almost human." When looking at something that is obviously not human, we still have the subconscious ability to apply human characteristics, an example of this being R2-D2. However as something starts to have more features resembling an actual human, it loses its appeal and starts to look more creepy. A teddy bear might seem cute to us, but if we gave it very realistic looking teeth, we may find it disturbing. The main character in the DS game Rocket Slime is a little slime ball named...you might guess....rocket. While he has some features similar to humans such as eyes and a mouth, he lacks teeth, arms, a nose, or any other human feature. Keeping the desig n simple, such as Mori encourages, makes the character appear more cute than creepy.
